Yak-30, A.S.Yakovlev

evelopment of the Yak-25, single-seat fighter with swept wings (35o. Aircraft was equipped with pressurized cockpit, dropable pilot's seat with armored back, bullet-proof 57mm windshield. External fuel tanks accommodate extra 325l of fuel.
Yak-30 was flown first on September 4, 1948 (pilot S.N.Anokhin). Trials continued until December 16. In shallow dive speed reached M=0.935. Speed, climb rate and maneuverability were found excellent. But airfoil section was found to be not optimal, as well as ailerons balance. Moreover, RD-500 engine provided little room for upgrade, restricting Yak-30 capability to stay competitive with future designs.

The Yak-30 competed with the MiG-15. Due to the latter success it didn't enter production.
