In 1935 two young engineers I.F.Florov and A.A.Borovkov proposed project of
unusual biplane fighter - very compact, without struts or wires between the wing. The prototype
(fighter N07211) was built in
1937.
This project evolved (as the I-207) through several stages until the German
invasion.
Original twin-tail fighter 'D' with combined (piston + two ramjets) powerplant was under development, also cancelled during
evacuation in 1941.
A.A.Borovkov was killed in aircraft crash in 1945.
I.F.Florov worked in rocket-powered experimental fighter (4302) in
1944-1947.
