Pe-2I bomber by V.M.Myasichev

Q
uite a radical modification of Pe-2 with new 1650hp VK-107A engines, aimed on 100km/h speed increase demanded by GKO. Daytime dive bomber with crew of two (pilot and navigator-gunner).
Aircraft wing was raised to middle position, providing space for large bomb bay. Fuselage was made wider to accommodate bombs of new standard (wider and shorter) which did not fit in previous series Pe-2. Bombload and fuel were increased.
Navigator's turret was replaced by UB in the extreme tail, remotely controlled by navigator.
Wing airfoil was revised (NACA-23012), improving aircraft handling on large incidence angles. Engine nacells became longer, in-wing radiators exhaust was re-routed under the wing.
GKO demand was met during May-June 1944 trials, and Pe-2I was built in series.
