Spanish War ace (8 kills) Frank G. Tinker became the first American to shot down Messerschmitt Bf-109. He did it flying Polikarpov I-15

May 23, 1937 pilot Ya.V.Pismennyj on floatplane AIR-6 performed World record flight Kiev-Batumi, covering 1,297km in 10h 25min with average speed 124.3km/h.

On July 4, 1937 AIR-9bis was used by women-pilots Irina Vishnevskaya and Ekaterina Mednikova to establish international record of altitude (6518m) for light aircraft.

Pilots A.N.Gousarov and V.L.Glebov on 23-24 September 1937 they flew the SAM-5-2bis non-stop from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk (3513km !) in 19h59min, setting official international record.

UT-1 trainer was installed on floats and used to set two International records :

October 2: Yu.I.Piontkovsky set speed record 218km/h at 100km;

October 21: D.N.Fedoseev flew floatplane from Moscow to Ufa, covering 1174km non-stop;
