ear 1948 replacement for the B-20 cannon as a major heavy bomber defence weapon. Part of the NV-23 defensive complex. NR-23 used same ammunition as the NS-23, but mechanical improvements allowed to increase fire rate by 55%.

For several years NR-23 was the major bomber and fighter barrel weapon.
