irst ASh-2K (ASh-4K) units were ready in 1949 and
installed on the flying laboratory Tu-4LL for trials. In the second half
1950 flight tests started and lasted until early
1951, when engines (plaqued with many problems including overheating) where
returned to developer (OKB-19).
As a result, they never were installed on the Tu-85 (as was scheduled) and on any
other aircraft. Era of piston engines in military aviation faded...
