DB-4/TsKB-56, S.V.Ilyushin

T
win-engined long-range bomber, intended to replace the DB-3. It was slightly larger than DB-3, had shoulder wing and twin tailfins. It also differed by much larger bomb bay in fuselage and more powerful engines.
It did not pass factory trials (October 1940) due to vibrations in tail structure and other defects. At the same time production of similar Yer-2/DB-240 started. Plus the AM-37 engine production discontinued in favor of the AM-38 for the Il-2.
Attempts to re-engine DB-4 with M-120 or M-82 remained on paper.
