In
1956 Robert Ludvigovich Bartini approached Beriev design bureau (which was specialized in seaplanes) with proposal for Wing-In-Ground vehicle project.
Be-1 became first small test vehicle. It featured two floats with very low aspect ratio wing section between them and small normal wing panels extending outside the floats.
'Takeoff' was assisted by hydrofoils, mounted on the floats. To make Be-1 amphibious it was also equipped with a landing gear.
Powered by single RU-19 turbojet, mounted behind the wing;
Flown during 1961-1963;
