R-3M-5, ANT-3 by A.N.Tupolev

S
ince high cost of 'Napier Lion' made it unsuitable for series aircraft, the ANT-3 was redesigned back to Liberty/M-5 engine. This task was assigned to GAZ-5 factory.
Problems with parts and materials, novelty of the aircraft stretched the process. Works started in November 1925, but first pre-series R-3 was ready only in June 1927. It was powered with the imported Liberty, while following (30?) series aircraft carried domestic built M-5 powerplants.
One of those planes was used by pilot S.A.Shestakov and mechanic D.V.Fufaev for flight Moscow - Sarapul - Omsk - Novosibirsk - Krasnoyarsk - Irkutsk - Chita - Blagoveschensk - Nanjang (Korea) - Okayama - Tokyo during August 20 - September 1 (1927). Way back took 11 days. Crew and aircraft covered ~20,000km in 153 flight hours.
Only one small batch was built, replaced in production by R-3LD;
