IL-3 N.N.Polikarpov, I.M.Kostkin, A.A.Popov

P
re-production version of the IL-400b monoplane fighter. Wing and tail surfaces had plywood skin. More strength tests (up to factor 10) were performed.
Lamblen radiator was replaced by honeycomb one, located under the engine cowling. Two synchronized machineguns were installed. Wielded aluminum alloy ('Kolchugaluminium') was used for the fuel tank. This innovation failed to find its way into series I-1 aircraft.
