I ntroduction in 1940 of new heavy
12.7mm UB machinegun triggered development of the Type 29, the last mass
production version of the I-16. New synchronized weapon was installed under the engine. As a result the T-shaped air intake of
the I-16 Type 24 airframe was moved to the starboard side (at ~7:30).
